Slow Down Ageing

Soften your face wrinkles

Wrinkles are a direct result of skin losing its elasticity with age and of the long-term effects of regular muscle contractions, such as smiling, laughing and frowning.  However, wrinkles are aggravated by other factors as well.  Sun damage, smoking and the stressful rhythm of our lives all contribute to the formation of wrinkles.

Today one of the methods people use to treat their wrinkles is going in for Botox cosmetic.  Renowned worldwide, Botox is a purified, sterile protein which is produced from the bacteria called clostridium botulinum.  Mild doses of this substance are injected into the facial muscle and the nerve endings which supply muscles so as to prevent the nervous impulses from traveling to muscles.

The result is a paralyzing or weakening effect on the facial muscle, which temporarily leads to the reduction or elimination of skin creasing, avoiding at the same time the formation of new wrinkles.  Within a few days of the Botox treatment, the patients can have a visibly smoother face with fewer wrinkles, and this effect generally lasts up to 6 months, after which one has to repeat the treatment.  Some of the most disturbing reminders of age, such as the forehead creases, eye lines (crow’s feet) or brow furrows, are effectively eliminated by injecting small amounts of Botox.

Collagen, a fibrous protein substance which is a component of all human and animal tissue, also has a significant role in removing wrinkles from all parts of the face.  This anti-wrinkle treatment is based on injecting either human or bovine collagen into the skin, in order to remove the wrinkles by filling out the skin.  This treatment is also efficient in treating more prominent facial folds and creases around the forehead, chin and cheeks.  Before a collagen procedure, a collagen allergy testing must be performed, and the treatment has to be repeated once every 2 to 4 months.

Besides Botox and collagen treatments, other wrinkle-treating procedures are laser resurfacing, dermabrasion and fat implants.  High-speed sanding is the technique through which the dermabrasion removes the surface layer of the skin, reducing fine lines, scars and acne.  However, the technique is not very successful when it comes to prominent wrinkles, and is more effective as a method of facial skin rejuvenation.  In its turn, laser resurfacing, also works best on shallow, fine wrinkles rather than on prominent ones.  Finally, another common wrinkle treatment method consists in fat implants, in which case fat is taken from one area of the body and deposited in frown or laugh lines, hollow cheeks or sunken chins.
